Oral Hygiene

Dental Examinations and Oral Hygiene

Our teeth are not only an important part of our smile; they allow us to eat and digest our food and aid our speech. Our baby teeth also provide these same functions and reserve spaces for our permanent dentition.

To help keep your teeth and gums healthy and your breath fresh, we recommend regular dental check-ups. At your routine dental visit, we carry out a thorough dental examination, which includes a complete check-up of your teeth and restorations, with the aim of identifying concerns before they evolve.  This often includes taking screening X-rays of your teeth.  We also assess your soft tissues (gums, tongue, lips and cheeks) to assess for possible abnormalities, such as oral cancers, that may require further investigation.

Good oral health begins with clean teeth. Poorly maintained teeth can result in bleeding gums, and tooth decay due to bacteria and food sugars forming plaque and tartar build-up on the teeth. If left untreated, this can eat away the teeth and aggravate the gums, ultimately leading to toothache and even tooth loss. Oral hygiene is necessary throughout our lives to ensure our teeth are preserved in the best of health.  At Mordialloc Dental, Group, we place strong emphasis on oral hygiene techniques to help you achieve a healthy smile.  At your check up we will carry out a thorough clean.  Rather than handing you over to a hygienist to have your teeth cleaned, our dentists prefer to be a part of this important aspect of your dental maintenance.

We will then work together with you deliver an effective home care routine.
